This body of work has just begun. In it the element of surprise is
important. Very often "surprise" in art is overlooked, and replaced
or preferred by more serious interpretive elements. This work
evolved out of this idea. The images are forms which Sr. Mary Jacque cut out of
wood and they are painted. The doors, when opened, have a
surprise inside of them.
These pieces are very sculptural, even though Sr. Mary Jacque consider them to
be paintings. Sr. Mary Jacque used oil paint and added many other elements
to the surface such as plexiglass shapes, glass, beads,
nails, collaged pictures, and light in the form of neon or light bulbs.
Sister Mary Jacque was looking forward to taking more risks with these kind of pieces she moved on.
